Center
for Interdisciplinary Learning and Leadership
A University Center for
Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service
Description:
This four-day workshop provides a basic understanding of traumatic brain injury and the implications for educational evaluation and programming. During the course of the workshop participants will attend a TBI support group and observe neurocognitive assessment of two students. Participants will work in teams to review assessment information, set educational priorities and formulate strategies for working with these students and families. In June of 2001, this training model received the poster award for "Most Innovative Project" at the Williamsburg Traumatic Brain Injury International Conference presented by Virginia Commonwealth University.About the presenters:

What participants say:
"The TBI training was excellent. It gave me a whole different view of my student and what he goes through daily. It was very good to have a parent involved in the training.""Since the TBI training, when parents come to meetings, I listen better and allow them to tell me. Sometimes it is just "venting", but afterwards the meeting is much more cooperative and informative."
" I am not uptight and afraid of my student's behaviors anymore."
