Registry Training in Other Health Impairment
Description:
This
four-day training provides information about some of the most
common health conditions that could lead to a student being served
under the classification of Other Health Impairment (OHI). These
conditions include Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Tourette's
Syndrome, childhood cancers and blood disorders, asthma, diabetes,
and rheumatoid arthritis. Medical professionals present the primary
characteristics of these conditions, common medications used in
treatment, and discuss the educational implications and accommodations
to be considered. Because there may be a behavioral component
to some of these conditions, participants are given tools and
strategies for conducting functional behavior analysis and formulating
behavior plans. A special educator shares the tips and tools she
has developed through her years of experience. Her information
will assist participants in utilizing medical information to create
plans that ensure a safe and supportive environment for students
with health impairments.
