Projects Home (Text) Oklahoma UCEDD projects focus on interdisciplinary education and training. The projects include pre-service education for students from various academic disciplines and inservice training for professionals already working in jobs that interface with people with disabilities and their families. The Oklahoma UCEDD also provides community training for families, self-advocates, and others who want to learn more about disability issues and their skills in working to improve access to services and resources.
The Oklahoma UCEDD involves people with disabilities and families in an advisory capacity to identify statewide needs, as consultants in the development, delivery, and evaluation of UCEDD training materials, and as staff assigned to specific projects.
Oklahoma UCEDD projects also involve participants in leadership opportunities. Although the individual projects change from year-to-year, important aspects stay the same.
All Oklahoma UCEDD projects include one or more of five steps:
- Information sharing within Oklahoma and the national community
- Identifying knowledge and competencies for skill building and best practice
- Creating team learning opportunities
- Assessing lessons learned to understand outcomes and emerging needs
- Developing leadership for systems change to guide next steps
Together, these five steps improve opportunities and outcomes for people with disabilities in Oklahoma.
