Developing leaders across fields of service to work with people with disabilities and families.Oklahoma LEND is an interdisciplinary leadership education program funded by the U.S. Maternal and Child Health Bureau and collaboratively coordinated by the Center for Learning and Leadership and the University of Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) Department of Pediatrics.
The program is centered around the evidence-based principles of family centered services, interdisciplinary teaming, cultural competence, and inclusive practices. Advanced graduate and post graduate students representing eleven disciplines have participated over a three-year period as Oklahoma LEND Leadership Interns in interdisciplinary coursework, practicum experiences, and research activities. Disciplines represented have included Audiology, Education, Medicine, Nursing, Nutrition, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Psychology, Public Health, Social Work, and Speech-Language Pathology. Two interdisciplinary leadership courses have been developed through the Oklahoma LEND Program and are offered at the OUHSC. The courses are taught by interdisciplinary faculty teams including family and self-advocate faculty.
Opportunities for short-term and long-term practicum activities are available at the OUHSC and in specific locations statewide.
