Paula Kim, President and founder of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network
(PanCAN)

and spoke at the University of Oklahoma, Norman Campus and the OU Health
Sciences Center, Oklahoma City Campus on March 24th and 25th.
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is the most influential national
organization focusing on pancreatic cancer in the United States. Her visit is
sponsored by the OU ~ Southwest Program for
Pancreatic Cancer which was recently founded by the Department of
Surgery, OUHSC Oklahoma City and the Department of Communication, OU Norman in
partnership with PanCAN. She was accompanied her associates

who had leading roles in the presentations and discussions.
During our discussions they:
shared their experiences in establishing support and advocacy groups,
advised regarding the development of an effective patient oriented
pancreatic cancer program,
became familiar with the clinical, social, and research resources in
Oklahoma, &
met with the public and pancreatic community of Oklahoma.

They gave two presentations, one on the OU Norman campus and the other on the OU Health Sciences Center Oklahoma City campus.

PAULA KIM, President & Founder
Paula graduated from
Inglewood High School and has been a life
long resident of the South Bay area. She enjoys being involved
in many volunteer activities that center on her children, Ryan
and Stephanie. She spent many years in the construction industry
before coming to PanCAN.
She lost her father to pancreatic cancer in 1998. Paula enjoys![]()
photography and writing as well as golfing and gardening with her
husband, Bob.

JULIE M. FLESHMAN, JD, MBA,
Executive Director & Corporate Secretary
Julie Fleshman graduated from Santa
Clara University School of
Law and Leavey School of Business in December 2000 with a
JD/MBA degree. Fleshman graduated Magna Cum Laude from the
University of California at Santa Barbara in 1997 with a B.A. in Law
& Society and was awarded most outstanding graduating senior in
the Law & Society program. She has also studied for a term at
Oxford University and in Tokyo, Japan.
Fleshman's work experience includes positions as the In-House Counsel Law Clerk at 3Com Corporation, a Legal Department Law Clerk at Nippon Steel Corporation in Japan, an Intern in the Political Unit at CBS News in Washington D.C., and an Intellectual Property Intern at Pillsbury Madison & Sutro in San Francisco. She was a finalist in the Santa Clara University School of Law 1999 Honors Moot Court Competition and served as a Chair on the 2000 Honors Moot Court Board. Fleshman chaired and served as a representative on a wealth of committees throughout her schooling career. She lost her father to pancreatic cancer in June 1999. Her mother, sister and brother live in Pleasanton, California.
MICHELE MUETHING, DPT, Director of
Patient and Liaison Services (PALS) and
Scientific Affairs
Michelle Muething is a 2002 graduate of the University of Southern
California, with the degree of Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). She
has considerable experience in working with and communicating with
patients of various diagnoses and medical professionals, both in
hospitals and outpatient clinics. Prior to obtaining her professional
degree, Michelle received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1998
from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. During her time at
Georgetown University, she competed as a member of the NCAA
Division I Cross Country and Track & Field Team.
Michelle joins PanCAN after being touched by the loss of a close friend's father to pancreatic cancer
