south on the left side of the map is Lincoln Blvd. which is a major
throughway running by the Health Sciences Center
leading to the State
Capitol Building. The O’Donoghue Research Building is in the
upper right portion of the map in PURPLE
on 13th street
directly under the large, red “N”.
Parking will be in the north parking lot in front of the building
having immediate access to the front entrance which is specifically designed
for wheelchair access.

pancreatic cancer patient or a relative or friend of someone with pancreatic
cancer,
would like to utilize the services provided by a comprehensive, integrated
pancreatic
cancer program, or
have an interest in supporting the development of the OU ~ Southwest Program
for
Pancreatic Cancer, providing services focused
on the pancreatic cancer community.
THE FOLLOWING WILL BE OF INTEREST TO YOU:
The initial goal of this program is to establish a network consisting
of every pancreatic cancer patient and survivor who resides in Oklahoma, as well as
their families, friends, and supporters. This will allow us to reach the
pancreatic cancer community this program is designed to serve.
The
OU ~ Southwest Program for Pancreatic Cancer has a strong patient
focus, placing specific emphasis on the development of the following services
to pancreatic cancer patients and their families and friends:
Organized advocacy
Facilitated access
to physicians and other health care providers
Education regarding
the disease process
Decision - making
support
Participation in
clinical trials using state-of-the-art therapeutic interventions
Follow-up support
groups
PROGRAM BACKGROUND
The
OU ~ Southwest Program for Pancreatic Cancer is based at the University of
Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City and is dedicated to serving
pancreatic cancer patients and their families and friends. The
initiation of this program is the collaborative effort of the Department of
Surgery in the College of Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health
Sciences Center and the Department of Communication in the College of Arts
and Sciences at the University
of Oklahoma.
There is extensive interaction with the leaders of the nationally prominent
advocacy group, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) (http://www.pancan.org/index.html)
that will be relied on for the development of the program. The
foundation for this regional program is derived from the national agenda set
forth in the Report of the Pancreatic Cancer Progress Review Group as
presented to the National Cancer Institute in February 2001. This
report is the result of a 10 month effort by approximately 120 nationally
prominent participants representing the full spectrum of expertise required
to identify a comprehensive array of priorities associated with pancreatic cancer.

Web Page will be constantly evolving with the goal of providing effective,
up-to-date information focused on the care of pancreatic cancer
patients.
The
purpose of the Web Page is three-fold:
to provide a
gateway to comprehensive information focused on pancreatic cancer,
to facilitate
access to physicians, health care providers, and support resources that
specialize in pancreatic cancer at the University of
Oklahoma Health Sciences Center,
to serve as an
organizational resource for the pancreatic cancer community of
Oklahoma
and the surrounding Southwest Region.
We encourage
interaction regarding the format and information provided through this Web
Page. Please contact us if you have suggestions regarding improvements
or changes that will help us develop a user-friendly Web Page for our
pancreatic cancer community.
