Donald R. Carter, M.D.

Donald R. Carter, M.D., Professor Emeritus, is a native Oklahoman. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 1960, completed the residency program in General Surgery here in 1965 and was in the private practice of surgery in Oklahoma City before joining the full time faculty. Dr. Carter has served as Chief of Surgery at Mercy Health Center and has been president of the Oklahoma County Medical Society. He joined the full time faculty in the Department in June, 1991 and also served as Chief of the Surgical Service at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. He is a past member of the Board of Governors of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Carter retired from active practice in December 1999 but continues as an attending to the General Surgery residents and as a lecturer for third year medical students.
