FAFSA Programs

Deadline: Unless otherwise noted, the suggested target date for filing the FAFSA is March 1st. Applications submitted after that date will be subject to available funds.

FEDERAL PELL GRANT

Undergraduate students who have not received bachelor's degree.  Awards range from $400 to $4,310 per year.

FEDERAL SEOG (Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant)

Student must be an undergraduate with demonstrated financial need.
Average award is $1,000 per year. Funds are awarded first to students who are Pell eligible with the lowest family contribution, then to those who are not Pell eligible.

OTAG (Oklahoma Tuition Aid Grant)

Student must be a legal resident of Oklahoma and enrolled in at least six hours. Undergraduates are eligible. Priority award consideration will be given to continuing students (those who received OTAG monies previously) whose applications are received by April 30th. OTAG awards are made by the Oklahoma State Regents based on information on the FAFSA. Regents Office notifies students of eligibility. Awards can range from $300 to $1,000 per year.

FEDERAL PERKINS LOAN

All students apply when the FAFSA is filed. Must demonstrate financial need. The interest rate is 5% simple interest. Payment & interest begins nine months after graduation or reduction of enrollment below half-time (grace period 9 months). Awards range up to $4,000 per year.

LEW WENTZ LOAN

All students eligible to apply. Must demonstrate financial need. Must be full time. The Lew Wentz Loan requires a co-signer. The interest rate is 5%. Interest must be paid every July. For any semester a student receives a 4.0, interest for that semester will be waived. Loan principal repayment begins the 4th month after graduation. Awards range up to $5,000 per year.

TUITION WAIVER SCHOLARSHIP

All students apply by completing FAFSA. All eligible students will be considered each year as long as they remain in good academic standing.

LA VERNE NOYES SCHOLARSHIP

Undergraduate students who are blood descendants of those who served overseas in WWI prior to November 11, 1918, or who entered the service prior to May 11, 1918. Students must also show academic merit and financial need. This scholarship provides for $300/sem. award. Student must submit copies of veteran's discharge papers as well as birth certificates establishing blood relationship.

HEALTH PROFESSIONS STUDENT LOAN (HPSL)

Dental or pharmacy students. Applicants MUST provide parents' financial information on the FAFSA in order to be considered. Parental information is required for both dependent and independent students. Students may need to submit a copy of parents' tax return. Must be enrolled full-time. The interest on HPSL is 5% fixed interest beginning, along with principal repayment, 12 months following graduation. Interest and principal payments are deferred during internship/residency. Awards range up to $9000 per year.

PRIMARY CARE LOAN

Only medical students are eligible to apply. The Primary Care Loan can be taken out during the student's fourth year of medical school to pay off other loans. Recipients of the PCL are expected to enter a residency program in primary care and eventually practice in such care until the loan is paid. Primary health care includes family medicine, general internal medicine, general pediatrics, preventive medicine or osteopathic general practice. Applicants must provide parents' financial information on the FAFSA. If a medical student fails to eventually enter the primary health care field, the loan balance will be recomputed from the date of issuance at an interest rate of 18% per year, compounded annually. NURSING STUDENT LOAN

Undergraduate nursing students are eligible to apply. Must show financial need. Must be enrolled full-time. The interest rate is 5%, beginning, along with principal repayment, 9 months following graduation. Awards range up to $4,000 per year.

GREENBERG SCHOLARSHIP

Eligible students include undergraduates & graduates who are in financial need because of a chronic neurological illness in the family. A letter from attending physician stating neurological disorder of family member must be submitted to the Financial Aid Office to be considered for scholarship.

PARRY SCHOLARSHIP

Nursing students (graduate or undergraduate) who show financial need and who demonstrate scholastic competence. Application deadline: May 1st. A separate application secured from the College of Nursing must be filed in addition to the FAFSA and the deadline is May 1 ,2005. Scholarships range from $200 to $1,000.
 

FEDERAL SUBSIDIZED STAFFORD LOAN PROGRAM

Any student enrolled on at least a half-time basis may apply. Must show financial need. A one-time promissory note must be completed in addition to the FAFSA. The Stafford Loan Program allows a student to borrow from a private lender (e.g., bank or credit union). Interest begins, along with principal repayment, six months following graduation or less than half-time enrollment.  For loans disbursed July 1, 2006 and after, borrowers will, during repayment period, pay a fixed interest rate of 6.8%. Maximum awards are $8,500 for graduate/professional students and $5,500 for undergraduates.

FEDERAL UNSUBSIDIZED STAFFORD LOAN

Any student enrolled on at least a half-time basis may apply. Applicants must apply for subsidized Stafford Loan first and may receive both subsidized and unsubsidized Stafford. Loan limits are the same as the subsidized Federal Stafford Loan limits except that the borrower's eligibility for an unsubsidized loan will be reduced by the amount of any subsidized loan received for the same period of enrollment. Interest is payable by the student from date of disbursement, or borrower may agree to let interest accrue quarterly. Repayment of the loan begins six months following graduation or less than half-time enrollment. For loans disbursed July 1, 2006 and after, the interest rate on the loan will be a fixed rate of 6.8%

FEDERAL PARENT LOAN FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS (PLUS)

Parents of at least half-time dependant undergraduate students may apply for the PLUS loan on behalf of the student.  Loans are limited to parents who do not have adverse credit histories or those who can provide an endorser.  The maximum loan per year is limited by the student’s cost of attendance, less other estimated aid the student will receive.  The interest rate is a fixed rate of 8.5% and repayment begins immediately.

FEDERAL GRADUATE PLUS LOAN

Graduate and professional students may apply for this loan after they have applied for Stafford loans.  Students must not have adverse credit histories or must be able to provide an endorser.  Undergraduate students are not eligible to apply.  Loan amounts are limited by the student’s cost of attendance, less other estimated aid.  The interest rate is a fixed rate of 8.5% and interest accrual and repayment begins immediately.  Many lenders automatically process in-school deferments for repayment purposes, but not all.
