Overview

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is part of the College of Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Betty Pfefferbaum, M.D., J.D., George Lynn Cross Research Professor, Paul and Ruth Jonas Chair and Professor, serves as Chair.

The primary purpose is to provide higher education in psychiatry and behavioral sciences, with those related research activities and clinical services deemed necessary for, but secondary to, this central focus.

The principal goal is to develop and maintain integrated mental/behavioral health training programs of quality. These programs must be sustainable and accessible and must be integrated with, and supported by, mental/behavioral health research enterprises and healthcare delivery systems.

Our vision is to become a statewide resource and center of excellence in targeted areas of mental/behavioral health with integrated education, research and service enterprises. These activities will incorporate the highest standards of fiscally-responsible professional training, mental/behavioral health-related research, and patient care.
