Our Surgical Pathology faculty have service responsibilities at each of the four hospitals (Everett Tower, Children's Hospital, Presbyterian Tower, and Veterans Administration Medical Center) on the OUHSC campus. Surgical Pathology faculty members provide a wide range of pathology expertise, especially pathology of the human breast, kidney, liver, gastrointestinal, prostate, brain, muscle and nerve, head and neck, and the hematopoetic system. The latest developments in immunocytochemistry are included in the Histology Laboratory, including tumor proliferation markers and the molecular genetics of brain tumors. Electron microscopy is provided as an essential test in disorders of the kidney, tumors of all kinds, and muscle and nerve disorders. The faculty includes a board-certified hematopathologist, three board-certified neuropathologists, and one pathologist with fellowship training in renal pathology.

Autopsy Services
Willard Aronson, MD, Director (ET & Presby)Jan V. Pita, MD, PhD, Chief (VAMC)
All of our Anatomic Pathology residents participate in the autopsy studies at Everett Tower, Children's Hospital, and Veterans Administration Medical Center. In addition to the autopsies which we perform at our hospitals, we have an Oklahoma City autopsy program involving a dozen institutions in and around Oklahoma City. Our autopsy cases are studied utilizing the latest laboratory techniques, including immunohistochemistry, electron microscopy, and molecular genetics. Of course, we consult freely with the various specialists in our departments.

Cytopathology
Rosemary Zuna, MD, DirectorOur three board-certified Cytopathologists evaluate Pap smears, including Thin Prep paps, from more than 70,000 women each year. An on-going study regularly correlates the interpretation of cervical biopsies with results from Pap smears from our high risk population of women. Special expertise is provided by one cytopathologist in fine needle aspiration pathology, and another offers special expertise in body fluids. For a comprehensive list of diagnostic tests focusing on women's health, explore our page on Women's Pathology Services.
