The OU Health Sciences Center has become increasingly successful at recruiting top senior faculty members who arrive on campus with considerable experience as well as significant grants for continuing their clinical or basic science research.   At the same time, we have been able to retain our faculty despite recruitment efforts by rival institutions.   How can we successfully recruit and retain some of the top faculty members in the country?   The answer is simple: The generous support of our alumni and friends.    Following are a few of the ways you can help:

Endowed Chairs and Professorships:   Endowed chairs and professorships allow the OU Health Sciences Center to use the income to supplement the salary of the faculty member, provide funds for the faculty member's scholarly research or allow the faculty member to develop special programs.

  • Endowed chairs are created with an endowment of at least $1 million, which typically involves a private gift of $500,000 matched by the Oklahoma State Regents.   Endowed chairs enable us to recruit and retain faculty members of national prominence whose experience and expertise make an exceptional contribution to teaching and the health care of the people of Oklahoma.
  • Professorships are endowed with at least $500,000, typically with $250,000 in private gifts and $250,000 from the state regents' program.   A professorship can be converted to a chair as additional contributions to the endowment reach $500,000.

Presidential Professorship:   A $150,000 endowment creates a Presidential Professorship, one of President Boren's cornerstone initiatives to recognize and reward merit.   Four-year stipends of $5,000 are awarded for assistant and associate professors, and $10,000 for full professors.   Nominees are chosen in a highly competitive process.

Named Faculty Fellowships: These fellowships are created with a one-time gift of $5,000 to $10,000 or an endowment of $100,000 to $150,000.   These fellowships usually provide the recipients with two-year annual stipends that reward outstanding teaching and research.

Named Scholarship Endowments: A scholarship endowment fund may be established with a gift of $25,000.

Student Fellowships:   A student fellowship may be created with a $100,000 endowment gift.   Students chosen to participate in the program receive $1,000 a year for working 10 hours per week as a research or teaching fellow for a tenured or tenure-track faculty member.

Planned Gifts:   Those who use their estate plans to benefit the University for generations to come become members of the George Lynn Cross Heritage Society.   These gifts, which may be bequests, charitable remainder trusts or life insurance, strengthen the future of the University while creating an enduring legacy for donors.

Undesignated Gifts: Undesignated gifts to the College of your choice provide funds for special needs or projects that enhance the educational experience of our students.
