Miscellaneous Information

  1. Keys and Pagers
    These are checked out for the duration of the residency. Lost items must be paid for before replacements are issued.

  2. Parking
    No charge is made for parking, however, there is a charge to replace a lost parking card.

  3. Meals
    Meals are provided on most rotations for residents when on in-house call.

  4. Moonlighting
    "Moonlighting" is forbidden in the P-1 or P-2 academic years and is strongly discouraged for others. A resident desiring to moonlight must have and maintain a satisfactory academic standing, obtain written approval from the Department’s Residency Training Committee, and secure adequate malpractice coverage.

  5. Oklahoma Medical License
    It is required that resident physicians be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Oklahoma.

  6. Narcotics Registrations--DEA and BNDD
    Each resident is responsible for completing and returning the forms pertaining to your registration with the Drug Enforcement Administration in Atlanta, GA, and with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control in Oklahoma City. The Department does not pay these fees, however, fee exemption may be utilized for the OSBNDDC certificate. Copies must be provided to the residency program.

  7. Working Hours of Residents
    Graduate medical education in a surgical specialty involves direct patient care in clinics, assisting in the operating room, and coverage of night call for emergencies. Attendance at didactic teaching conferences and educational opportunities add additional time to the workweek. The full-time faculty and the volunteer faculty are striving for full compliance with regard to the ACGME resident duty hours requirements and have made this a priority.
