A dedicated, funded, and well-equipped neurosurgical research lab (the Ted Greenberg Memorial Lab) is present in the O’Donahue building on the University campus. The Departmental research program is active in the innovative study of neurological disease. There is a dedicated technician with a masters degree in the research laboratory who has been with the department for more than 20 years. Research projects are carried out under direct supervision of a faculty member who is responsible for the design of the project, adherence to the scientific method, and for the continued intellectual growth of the resident, as evidenced by a record of productivity in abstract and peer review paper submission. An expectation is made that the resident, in concert with the faculty member, will prepare an appropriate, methodologically driven, research plan which can be submitted for both intramural and extramural funding. Residents are given the opportunity to present their work at national meetings at which it is accepted and full support from the department is given for this purpose. Secretarial and technical support is readily available to the residents to complete their research projects and publications.
