CHAIRMAN
David Lee Gordon, M.D., FAHA Professor and Chairman David-Gordon@ouhsc.edu	Dr. David Lee Gordon joined the Department of Neurology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center as Professor and Chairman in January 2007.  He received his medical degree from the University of Miami and completed his medicine internship at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt in New York City, his neurology residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City, and a stroke fellowship at the University of Iowa. Dr. Gordon founded and directed the Acute Stroke Unit at the University of Mississippi Medical Center from 1991 to 1999, received the Outstanding Physician Award from the Mississippi peer-review organization in 1999, and received the American Heart Association’s national Award of Meritorious Achievement in 2000.  While at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine from 1999 to 2006, he served as Assistant Director of the Center for Research in Medical Education and led the development and implementation of Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS®), a hands-on stroke course for prehospital and hospital providers, now taught throughout the southeastern U.S.  He also developed and directed a standardized, competency-based neurology clerkship that utilizes multimedia, online, and hands-on methods of skills training.  He serves on the American Academy of Neurology’s Undergraduate Education and Education Research Subcommittees. Dr. Gordon is an active clinician and educator.  He has been named one of the “Best Doctors in America” on several occasions, serves as a neurology board examiner, has received several teaching awards, has served on multiple national panels and committees, and has written numerous articles and book chapters related to stroke, headache, and medical education.  His current research interests include hypercoagulability and stroke in young adults, optimizing hospital and community systems for stroke care, and curriculum development and the use of simulation in outcomes-based education of health professionals.

PROFESSORS
James R. Couch, M.D., Ph.D. Professor James-Couch@ouhsc.edu	Dr. Couch served as Chairman of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center Neurology Department, and Program Director for the Neurology Residency Training Program from 1992 until 2006. He was chief of the Department of Neurology at Southern Illinois University from 1979 to 1992. He has recently served on the boards of the Association of University Professors of Neurology, The American Headache Society, and the American Society of Neurorehabilitation. He is currently the Chairman of the Consortium of Neurology Program Directors of The American Academy of Neurology and also Chair of the Headache Section of the AAN. His research interests are in the area of headache and stroke. He is past President of the American Association for the Study of Headache, and is active in research on headache and stroke. He is a past contributor to Conn’s Current Therapy as well as the Washington Manual, and co-author of the Handbook of Neurorehabilitation.   Dr. Couch is internationally renowned as an expert in the treatment of headache and has traveled the world lecturing on current therapies.  His research in this area has been published extensively throughout the country.
Julie T. Parke, M.D. Professor/Chief, Child Neurology   Julie-Parke@ouhsc.edu	Dr. Parke is a Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma. She is board certified in Pediatrics, Electrodiagnostic Medicine, Psychiatry and Neurology with special qualification in Child Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology. Her special interests include neuromuscular diseases, neurogenetics, epilepsy, and headache.
Elliott Ross, M.D. Professor Director, VA Center for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Disorders & OUHSC Center For Memory Loss & Dementia   Elliott-Ross@ouhsc.edu Personal Page	Dr. Ross received his medical degree from Boston University in 1968. He spent two years training in Internal Medicine followed by two years of service in the US Navy before starting his Neurology Residency at Boston City Hospital, Harvard Medical School, under the mentorship of Professor Norman Geschwind. In June of 1975, he joined the Department of Neurology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas as an Assistant Professor. He was promoted with tenure to Associate Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry in 1981. In 1988, he became Professor and Chairman of Neurology in the Department of Neuroscience at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Director of the Clinical Research Program at the Neuropsychiatric Research Institute in Fargo, ND.   Dr. Ross joined our faculty in 1996 to direct the VA's Center for Alzheimer's and Neurodegenerative Disorders. He established OUHSC's Center for Memory Loss and Dementia in 2000 and currently serves as its Director. He has published extensively in the area of higher brain functions, including the neurology of language, emotion, depression, memory, affect and prosody, which has gained him international recognition as a clinical researcher. He served as President of the Behavioral Neurology Society (1991-1993) and was elected by the Society in 1993 to serve as Associate Editor for the journal -- Neuropsychiatry, Neuropsychology and Behavioral Neurology. From 1996-2000, he was Director of the Behavioral Neurology Course presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Neurology . His current research is focused on the behavioral and emotional changes associated with aging, dementia and other degenerative diseases.
Peggy J. Wisdom, M.D. Professor/Vice Chair Chief, VA Medical Center Neurology Rehabilitation Service Peggy-Wisdom@ouhsc.edu	Dr. Wisdom is Professor of Neurology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. She is currently Chief of Neurology/ Rehabilitation at the Oklahoma City Veterans' Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Wisdom graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 1972 and completed a residency in Neurology at the University of Florida. In 1976 she returned to Oklahoma where she has been on faculty at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Wisdom has developed programs in neurorehabilitation, the most notable of which was the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program at O'Donoghue Rehabilitation Institute. She is currently Medical Director of the Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Program and Spinal Cord Injury/MS Program at the Oklahoma City Veterans' Affairs Medical Center.   Dr. Wisdom has had a major interest in medical student and resident education and has received the Stanton L. Young Master Teacher Award in recognition of her excellence in teaching. Dr. Wisdom's current efforts are in the development of an interdisciplinary neuroscience center of the Veterans' Affairs Medical Center in Oklahoma City. The center is a clinical resource for multidisciplinary training of all levels of healthcare professionals, education of undergraduate students and residents, and research.   She has been recognized for her excellence in patient care by receipt of the James F. Hammerstein Physician of Excellence Award in 1996.
K.J. Oommen, M.D. Professor Chief, Section of Epilepsy Medical Director, COPE [Comprehensive Oklahoma Program for Epilepsy] KJ-Oommen@ouhsc.edu	Dr. Oommen is a Professor in the Department Neurology and Chief of the Section of Epilepsy. He is also Director of the Comprehensive Oklahoma Program for Epilepsy and the Director of the Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship Program. Dr. Oommen trained in advanced epilepsy diagnosis and management at the Georgia Comprehensive Epilepsy Program of the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. His areas of research include cerebral blood flow in epilepsy, computerization of EEG interpretations, development of new drugs for epilepsy, the study of factors influencing the spread of epileptic discharges in the brain, and surgical therapies for epilepsy including vagus nerve stimulation.

ASSOCIATE & ASSISTANT PROFESSORS
Farida Abid, M.D. Assistant Professor Farida-Abid@ouhsc.edu	Dr. Abid graduated from Dow Medical College in Pakistan.  She did her Pediatric Residency at UMDNJ in New Jersey followed by a Pediatric Neurology Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.  Dr. Abid's areas of interest are seizure, developmental delay and demyelinating disease.
Fatima Abrantes-Pais M.D. Assistant Professor   Fatima-Abrantes-Pais@ouhsc.edu	Dr. Abrantes-Pais joined the department in July 2000. She is Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, and works with the Neurorehabilitation and Spinal-Cord-Injury Programs at the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center. Her training included a Neurology residency at the Escola Paulista de Medicina (Săo Paulo, Brazil) and at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center, a fellowship in Neuro-Oncology at the Escola Paulista de Medicina, and a fellowship in Neurorehabilitation at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University at The Burke Rehabilitation Hospital. Her research interests include the cognitive aspects of disability and recovery after CNS insults, motor recovery after neurological injuries, and stroke-rehabilitation outcomes.
Kersi Bharucha, M.D. Assistant Professor Kersi-Bharucha@ouhsc.edu	Dr. Bharucha is Director of the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center and Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Dr. Bharucha joined the faculty of the Neurology Department in September, 1995. His training included a residency in neurology at the Mayo Clinic and a fellowship in Movement Disorders at the Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Bharucha's current research interests are in studying the cognitive aspects of Parkinson's disease. He also utilizes Botox for the treatment of various movement disorders.
Paul Gill, M.D. Assistant Professor Paul-Gill@ouhsc.edu	Dr. Paul Gill  joined the Department of Neurology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center as Assistant Professor in July 2007.  He had previously been an Intern in the Internal Medicine Department at OU and then a Neurology Resident in our Department.  Dr. Gill has established the first OU Neurology clinic in Edmond.  Along with a solid academic and clinic background, Dr. Gill has been active in various clinical research trials and published his work in recognized scientific journals.  Dr. Gill has been passionate about reaching out to the local communities.  He has been the guest speaker of  a radio show program (890 AM) that engaged the community in an open discussion on elderly diseases. Dr, Gill is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and member of the American Academy of Neurology.  Dr. Gill sees patients in Edmond at 105 S. Amy Hessler, D.O. Assistant Professor Amy-Hessler@ouhsc.edu	Dr. Amy Hessler joined the Department of Neurology at the University of Oklahoma in August 2007 after completing a one year fellowship in Neurophysiology at the University of Michigan, with an emphasis in EEG/Epilepsy.   Dr. Hessler’s neurology residency training was done at Tufts University in Boston under the guidance of Dr. Allan Ropper and Dr. Thomas Sabin.   Before changing direction and moving into neurology, Dr. Hessler completed two years of an Internal Medicine residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA. after graduating from Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.   She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Epilepsy Society.
Chaouki Khoury, M.D. Assistant Professor Chaouki-Khoury@ouhsc.edu	Dr. Chaouki Khoury joined the Department of Neurology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center as Assistant Professor in July 2007.  He had previously been an Intern in the Internal Medicine Department at OU and then a Neurology Resident in our Department. He subsequently completed a Child Neurology Fellowship in Houston before returning to Oklahoma. Prior to his post-graduate training, Dr. Khoury completed a combined M.D. and Masters of Science in Neuroscience degree at the American University of Beirut (Beirut, Lebanon). His Masters work focused on spinal and supraspinal pathways of neuropathic pain. Dr. Khoury is trained as both an adult and child neurologist. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and Child Neurology Society. His current interest is in pediatric headaches, and he started a Pediatric Headache Clinic as soon as he joined our Department. He also has an interest in pediatric demyelinating diseases and pediatric stroke.
Jeanne Ann King, M.D. Clinical Associate Professor Jeanne-King@ouhsc.edu	Dr. King is Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology, having rejoined the faculty in August, 2007, after a nine year absence.  She was previously a full-time faculty member from 1982-1998.    Dr. King  graduated from Vanderbilt University with a BA in biology in 1974.  She subsequently got her medical degree (1978) and residency training in neurology at the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine.  Following completion in 1982, she joined the faculty of the University of Oklahoma Department of Neurology and was involved in the creation and development of the Comprehensive Oklahoma Program for Epilepsy (C.O.P.E.) and the Richard E. Carpenter Neuroscience Library.  In the past, her research interests involved antiepileptic drug (AED) development, and she participated in numerous AED trials prior to FDA approval of several of the current “new” drugs for epilepsy.  A special interest is epilepsy in developmental disabilities.  While in Louisiana she was neurological consultant to the Hammond Developmental Center, and has now resumed  consulting for the Southern Oklahoma Resource Center (formerly known as the Paul’s Valley State School) and the Northern Oklahoma Resource Center in Enid.  She has a strong interest in medical education and is a board member and faculty of the J. Kiffen Penry Epilepsy Minifellowship Program based at Wake Forest University.  She is Board-Certified in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and has been listed in the national data base of Best Doctors in America..  She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Epilepsy Society.
Marc Lenaerts, M.D. Associate Professor Marc-Lenaerts@ouhsc.edu Personal Page	Dr. Lenaerts obtained his Doctorat in Medecine and then pursued a Neurology residency all at the University of Liege, Belgium. Following this he was Staff Neurologist, Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. He came to the University of Oklahoma and completed Neurology here before joining our faculty as an Associate Professor in the summer of 2000. His interests include: Efficacy of Riboflavin (vitamin B2) in migraine prophylaxis; Development of headache and pain specialty clinic. He is a member of: International Association for the Study of Pain; International Headache Society; American Headache Society.
Calin Prodan, M.D. Assistant Professor Calin-Prodan@ouhsc.edu	Dr. Prodan joined the Neurology Faculty in July 2002.  He completed a Neurology Residency and Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship right here at the University of Oklahoma.  His areas of clinical  interest are Clinical Neurophysiology and Neuromuscular Disorders.  His research interests include Behavioral Neurology and Dementia.

CLINICAL FACULTY
Elizabeth Harris, PA Instructor Elizabeth-Harris@ouhsc.edu	Liz Harris graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1984 as a Physicians Assistant.  She has had experience teaching and as a PA in areas of Rehabilitation and Family Medicine.  She accepted a position in the Department of Neurology at OUHSC in July 2007.  She currently follows patients with Parkinson's Disease and Dementia.
Herman Jones, Ph.D. Clinical Professor Herman-Jones@ouhsc.edu	Dr. Jones is a neuropsychologist and Clinical Professor in the Departments of Neurology and Psychiatry at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. His interests and experience is in the cognitive, emotional and social impact of epilepsy on the individual and the family. Dr. Jones has had extensive training in neurology as well as cortical function and neurorehabilitation.
Marilee Monnot, Ph.D. Clinical Associate Professor Marilee-Monnot@ouhsc.edu	Marilee Monnot received her Ph.D. and M.Phil. from the University of Cambridge, and is licensed by the Oklahoma Department of Health as a Licensed Marital and Family Counselor #69 and Licensed Professional Counselor #117. She has been a mental health provider and facility administrator since 1977. Currently, she is Clinical Coordinator for the VAMC Center for Alzheimers and Neurodegenerative Disorders. Dr. Monnot is a Clinical Associate Professor.

Patricia Perkins, CPNP Instructor Patricia-Perkins@ouhsc.edu	Tricia Perkins joined the Neurology Faculty in January 2003 as an Instructor.  She primarily works with pediatric patients with neurologic needs.  Tricia received her R.N. degree from Oklahoma University and  her masters degree in Child Health and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from University of Texas at Arlington.   Tricia spends most of her time happily raising a sweet little girl, but also enjoys reading, traveling, scuba diving and spending time with family and friends.  She grew up in OKC, relocated to Texas for 12 years, and has now moved back home.
Debra Weatherford, NP Instructor	Debra is a nurse practitioner for inpatient services at Presbyterian Tower.  She received her BSN from the University of Oklahoma College of Nursing and her NP certificate from OUHSC in 1983, where she received the Outstanding Student Award.  She completes a Master’s of Nursing degree at the University of Oklahoma in 2008.  Her past professional experiences include women’s health, acute care, emergency department, and orthopedics.   She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau.
