 »  Schusterman Center and Tulsa

A significant strength of the opportunities available through the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center includes the Schusterman Center located in Tulsa, the state's second largest city situated approximately 90 miles northeast of Oklahoma City.

The Schusterman Center at the University of Oklahoma (OU), Tulsa, serves as headquarters for seven OU colleges that offer graduate programs in the city, including the College of Medicine.

The OU College of Medicine, Tulsa, is one of the nation's leading community-based medical schools. The college offers resident physicians the opportunity to experience a broader range of first-contact, comprehensive patient-care situations than found in most academic medical centers.

The OU College of Medicine in Oklahoma City celebrated its Centennial year in 2000. Building on the strengths and traditions of that program, the OU College of Medicine, Tulsa, was founded in 1974 to serve the medical education and health care needs of northeastern Oklahoma. OU medical students may elect to complete the third and fourth years of their medical training in Tulsa and the college offers residency programs in:

  • Family Medicine
  • Family Medicine/Psychiatry
  • Internal Medicine
  • Internal Medicine/Pediatrics
  • Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Pediatrics
  • Psychiatry
  • Surgery

  • The three hospitals used for teaching serve as regional centers for organ transplantation, the treatment of cancer and trauma, the delivery of cardiac care, burn treatment, and neonatal and pediatric intensive care. Students and residents also train in the college's ambulatory care centers, psychiatric clinic and other medical facilities in northeastern Oklahoma.

The college's faculty have been selected for the quality of their teaching and their ability to provide residents with an outstanding educational experience. Students and residents are assured personalized teaching and mentoring from a full-time faculty of 60 and more than 800 adjunct faculty members.

In addition to an exceptional clinical experience, resident physicians have the opportunity to assist with clinical research projects of national interest.

In addition to the College of Medicine, the OU colleges offering programs at the Schusterman Center are Allied Health, Continuing Education, Engineering, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Public Health.

OU students, staff, and faculty enjoy state-of-the-art distance learning classrooms, numerous conference rooms, a multi-purpose Conference Center, beautiful lounges, a spacious health sciences library that is open to the public, a fully-equippped fitness center, and a cafeteria on the Schusterman campus.
