OUHSC-Columbia/Presbyterian BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT SUPPORTGROUP

The Bone Marrow Transplant Support Group (BMTSG) was startedat University Hospital (Oklahoma) in June of 1992. It was first formedto help BMT patients and their families deal with the transplant itselfand the continued recuperation after they went home. Now both pre and/orpost transplant patients come to BMTSG meetings. Patients who were beingprepared for transplant frequently wanted to come to a group meeting beforethey had their transplant. They had lots of questions and were able totalk to someone who had been through what they were about to face.

Guest speakers come to some of the meetings and discuss topics usuallybased on transplantation and side effects of the treatments used. Therehave been meetings on the new trends and developments of bone marrow, stemcell, and cord stem cell transplants. Other topics of interest during themeetings were about nutrition and exercise after BMT.

Meetings are held once a month on the second Tuesday of each month from6:00-8:00 p.m. at University Hospital on the 5th floor in room 5E-225.If you have any questions about this support group or how you can startyour own, please contact Karen Eberle at 271-8042.
