Business Career in Biotech

Biotech companies need to be formed and products developed for the marketplace.



Salesperson, Product Manager, President, or Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O.) - A team that finds a needed or a better service/product, and then design and execute a plan to achieve sales. Many avenues and opportunities including investigating and licensing inventions, capital investment procurement, strategic product planning, market analysis, and advertising.

Education Level: Typically, at least a B.A./B.S. degree and some experience, or a M.B.A. degree is required. History shows that all sorts of backgrounds and experiences can yield business people that launch successful products or companies, but it makes sense that some science background will allow one to understand both the attributes and the limitations of biotech products.

Special qualities: Knowing the existing market and the "usual rules" of business plus the science behind an innovation. Contemplating, predicting, and comparing all of the permutations and angles to make superior products/services with the unique biotechnologies in hand.
