October 26, 2006– The Oklahoma Center for Medical Glycobiology is currently undergoing a new phase of expansion and reorganization!

Our founding director, Richard D. Cummings, has departed The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center to assume the William Patterson Timmie professorship and chairpersonship at the Dept. of Biochemistry at the Emory University School of Medicine. He continues as an adjunct member of the OCMG. We wish him the best of luck in his new endeavors.  His role at the OCMG has been assumed by Christopher M. West, a professor in the Dept. of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. Chris may be found in BMS 937 if not at the OCMG Core Lab in BRC 413, or reached at Cwest2@ouhsc.edu or 405-271-2227 x1247.

Our recently installed our new Bruker Ultraflex II MALDI-TOF-TOF mass spectrometer is now operational. This instrument is highly suitable for a broad range of applications especially in the area of glycoproteomics and glycomics studies.

Wendy Ives has recently joined the OCMG Core Laboratory to assist Christa Feasley, Ph.D., in Core Lab operations. Wendy recently received her B.S. in Biochemistry from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.

We welcome the new members who have recently joined the OCMG to assist in its governance and share resources. See the Faculty link for current membership.

In addition to offering traditional MS- and HPLC-based protocols in glycoprotein, glycopeptide, glycan, and sugar studies, the Core Lab is busily adapting new microanalytical procedures in lectin-affinity fractionations and glycan release and derivatization.

Please stay tuned for further developments!
