The University of Oklahoma Department of Anesthesiology is a growing program. Our program is an ever-expanding partnership between Staff Physicians, Residents and Nurse Anesthetists. At the University of Oklahoma, Staff and Residents form a closely-knit family that delivers anesthetics based upon a team approach. Our department has a strong clinical background and is responsible for providing Anesthesiology consultation in four separate hospital locations throughout the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Campus. Resident training begins at post-graduate year 1 where internship provides diversity in exposure to the major disciplines in medicine to prepare Interns for the upcoming clinical anesthesia years. Clinical training begins with a one-month rotation during the Intern year and continues into post-graduate years 2 through 4.
During the 3-years of clinical anesthesia training, our Residents find a strong exposure to the clinical facets of Anesthesiology. This experience serves to prepare for a successful and efficient future private practice. Case diversity, numbers and techniques are optimal to ensure that you will graduate as a well-rounded practitioner at home in any clinical or academic setting. Didactic training consists of morning lectures, and weekly Anesthesiology Grand Rounds. Textbooks and stipends are provided to further enhance your education. As with many residencies in Anesthesiology, call responsibilities average between 7 to 10 nights per month, with ‘post-call’ days off. Our campus is located near downtown Oklahoma City and is easily within reach of most popular metropolitan Oklahoma City neighborhoods. With our program, you will find adequate time to train as well as enjoy all that this growing city has to offer. I hope that you will consider our program for your future Anesthesiology training. I will be happy to answer any individual questions you might have. I would like to be the first to welcome our future applicants to this wonderful field and personally invite you to research all that our department has to offer.
