Overview of the Program

The Dermatology Residency Program is a three-year program in which graduate physicians receive training in the specialty of dermatology. At completion of their training, the graduates are qualified to sit for the American Board of Dermatology and provide dermatologic care. Our program allows for seven residents. Therefore, we accept two residents per year excepting every third year when we can accept three residents to have seven total residents.

Our program strives to:
  1. Provide clinical diagnostic experiences that reflect the modern practice of dermatology.
  2. Provide therapeutic experiences that reflect the modern practice of dermatology.
  3. Make available a broad range of instructional methods and equipment.
  4. Provide comprehensive instruction in the basic sciences pertinent to patients with diseases of the skin.
  5. Employ faculty who will provide graded direction and supervision of patient care by residents.
Requirements and Objectives: (abridged)
  1. Attend assigned clinics, weekly textbook, dermatopathology, clinical kodachrome, surgery, basic science, and digital photo conferences, journal club, resident board review, and grand rounds.
  2. Complete two textbooks during the three years of residency.
  3. Keep accurate surgical logs, which are required by the Board.
  4. Score above 60% on inservice training exams.
  5. In each year of residency, each resident will participate in one month of intensive dermatopathology study in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
  6. Take call according to the schedule assigned.
  7. Attend all state dermatological society meetings and participate in patient presentations.
  8. Attend the annual American Academy of Dermatology meeting as well make presenations.
  9. Provide inpatient consultation at OU Medical Center (Everett, Presbyterian, and Children's Towers) and the VA Medical Center.

Application Deadline: November 30, 2008
Interviews are usually held in January following the application deadline. Applicants selected for interviews will be notified by mail and email of their date and time by the Program Director.
